The Denim World Championship Contest 2015

We will be entering two categories...
Godzilla vs. King Kong (or Japanese Selvedge vs. American Selvage)
The debate over which is superior is one that will rage on as long as people continue to purchase & wear selvage. However this post is not about which is better but rather to clear up a few common misperceptions and myths about Japanese selvage and establish some facts about American selvage. Fade to Black
Hello Rivet Heads
Our first post of 2015 finds us recharged and restocked! First up is the Slim Straight - we have restocked on all five qualities from the Holidays and have added our first black selvage. This is a 13.5oz 3 x 1 RHT with a natural fill yarn woven at the legendary Cone Mills White Oak plant. Black selvage was first introduced in 1950 as a one off but quickly gained notoriety as the jean of choice for outsiders and its been breakin' hearts and bustin' heads ever since. Exaggerated slub yarns will give nice uneven fade characteristics. Expect this to fade to a beautiful dusty grey in due time. Jean details include a black leather patch, neutral tan stitching and antique nickel hardware. This is an extremely limited run and at $79 it's a wise investment for those of you who have not yet added a pair of black selvedge to the rotation yet.
Stay tuned for news on restock in the True Straights next...

Hello Rivet Heads,
We've just taken stock of our largest delivery to date - all four fits and a denim jacket in 5 different qualities of Cone Mills selvedge denims! We couldn't be more fired up about the new shades, weaves & weights that have emerged from the indigo baths of North Carolina. From a 13.5oz 1940's shade to the beastly 16.5oz saturated indigo which we've now been carrying for the past two years. These new selvages are the epitome of the American denim craft and cannot be imitated or duplicated. So far the response has been phenomenal and we have started selling out of certain sizes and weights with plenty of great feedback from those in possession already (of selvedge of course! what you carry in those pockets is none of our business : ) If you haven't ordered from this new batch yet there's still time, so what are you waiting for?
Last but not least, if you have not signed up for our newsletter your missing out cuz thats the only way you'll find out when we'll have our next Free Shipping announcement.
Stay Raw,
Mik
Skeleton Skinny Selvedge Denim back in stock for Fall 14!
Skeleton Skinny's just waiting to be broken in...
Ok, so we know its been a while since these have been available on the site which is why we are so damn excited to crow about them. The Skeleton is a skinny jean in the truest sense. This is not a Slim Fit simply sized up one size - the fit was engineered for those of us that were blessed with the leanest of frames - specifically in the seat, thigh & knee that finishes to one of the narrowest bottom openings available anywhere! Check out the size specs here . There are 5 unique weights and finishes all from Cone Mills starting @ 14oz all the way up to the heavies at 16.5oz (c'mon we dare you to break these in). Oh yeah did we mention that prices started at a ridiculous $79. Yep, there are plenty of typo's on our site but the price ain't one of them. BOOM...
Cone Mills 14oz Selvage
Fresh off the machines! Our new Cone Mills 14oz selvedge.
A beautiful grey cast indigo with an uneven warp yarn gives this jean a vintage high low contrast.
Limited quantity available at $79
The Killing of the Buffalo

"...There are people round here that don't take kindly to the killing of the buffalo" Genocide (Thin Lizzy)
The American Denim Industry is much like the plight of the American Bison. The Bison were almost extinct when a few people had the vision to save, revive and protect them. The Bisons history is a noble one. Most of our highways today formerly were Bison trials making them the original trailblazers.
Today, due to the efforts of many they have been revived and again are part of the American landscape
The same is true of Brave Star Selvage. We are building a new future in what was seen as a dying industry. Just as the Bison we have a vision of reviving American denim manufacturing starting with selvage jeans and jackets.
Brave Star Selvage represents the best in American craftsmanship and denim heritage.
Be a Symbol
There was a time when you could get clothes for an affordable price without worrying about the garment falling apart the next month. In response to the Fast Fashion movement, where mass consumption shifted clothing and apparel from quality to quantity, smaller boutiques and brands have adapted to a new niche of offering unique and expensive styles with much larger margins to compensate for their smaller quantities.
At Brave Star Selvage Denim, we had a crazy idea: What if we offered the same durable and lasting products, made in America, but still offered them at an affordable and sustainable price?
We source all of our denim from Cone Mills in North Carolina, the oldest working mill in the world. Not only do we source domestically, we also manufacture all of our jeans in our factory in LA without outsourcing production overseas. Our goal is simple, quality should never be aspirational.
As American manufacturers, our everyday existence is a symbol of rebellion.
Brave Star Selvage. Unapologetically Affordable.
