Woven From Wood...

50% LESS WATER 70% LESS CHEMICALS 100% SUSTAINABLE
Sustainable: First produced commercially in Mobile, Alabama almost 30 years ago, this plant-based fibre is a forgotten innovation. It all starts with wood from sustainable tree farms. Specifically eucalyptus, oak and birch. After being harvested, the wood is ground into a pulp and dissolved with amine oxide which is a non toxic surfactant. It is commonly used in shampoos and conditioners. What remains is raw cellulose – a sticky, viscous liquid. The mixture is pushed through spinnerets that transforms the cellulose into fibres. After washing, drying and compressing, the bio-fibres are spun into yarn and eventually woven into fabric. This entire process is used in a closed looped system which means that the solvent is recycled time and time again to produce new fibres and minimise harmful waste. Bonus - this specific quality of Cone selvage is made from recycled cotton yarn and when combined with bio-fibre it saves 30% of energy, 50% of water and 70% of chemicals per jean (vs traditional cotton denim). That's something we can get behind.
Durable: The bio fibres are extremely strong due to the many nanofibrils (nano fibers) spun together to make yarn. When blended with cotton yarn this denim can take a beating despite it's lighter weight.
Breathable: Airflow and moisture management are two key attributes unique to this hybrid cotton yarn. Moisture wicking and breathability means a pair of jeans that can be worn even during the warmest summer months.
This a weight that you can rarely go wrong with. We consider this a year round denim for those that don't live in extreme weather conditions. This selvedge is great for first timers wanting a weight that is all about wearability as well as seasoned denim heads looking for options that represent authentic American selvedge from the legendary Cone Mills.
