If any of our denim jacket styles deserves to be recreated in leather, it's the Badlands. It fuses the aesthetic of an iconic biker jacket with a classic bomber jacket yet with a swagger all of its own. All the details of our denim Badlands have been translated into the leather version which gives off an attitude that's undeniable. The craftsmanship is showcased in the rich details such as the double front pleats and two mid chest, exterior patch pockets that are eye catching yet still understated. A single box pleat with bartack stitch detail in back is a functional feature that affords movement to the shoulders and arms instead of traditional back shoulder gussets. We have carried over our unique, two interior pocket bags in black 13oz selvedge denim which reduces volume in the torso yet provides the necessary functionality for your everyday carry. We have forgone utilizing any interior lining for a number of reasons. Firstly, the first fail point in a leather jacket is usually the lining. Secondly, lining is traditionally a polyester or poly cotton blend that prevents the leather from breathing and causes unnecessary body heat which usually leads to sweat

The quality of the leather brings an additional aesthetic element to the detail rich design. The full grain cowhide exhibits marbling and texture only attributable to high quality leather. As for the dye process of the leather hide, there is no process more conducive to the aging of a leather jacket than 'tea core'. In fact tea-core is a dyeing process that not only pre-dates most commonly used dip dye methods but in our opinion, it is a superior method due to its poor color fastness (more on that later). Tea-core dyeing results in the skin side color being different from the flesh side color. Traditionally, to achieve this, hides are first dip-dyed in a light brown color. This is followed by spraying the skin side with a darker color top-coating. This dyeing method is often considered undesirable by commercial brands as tea-core leather offers poor ‘colorfastness’. The thin top coat wears-off overtime, gradually exposing the lighter tone of the under layer. If the fast-aging quality of “tea-core” leather is considered a defect by some, it contributes to a rewarding and desirable patina for others. There is no better patina achieved than that of tea core leather.

The Badlands jacket is exclusively Made In The USA from US sourced leather and hardware thus continuing the commitment to producing all of our garments domestically.
