Our mission at Brave Star is to constantly seek out unique weaves and dye processes made in small batch runs. The selvage denims we gravitate toward emphasize the beauty and color spectrum of rope dyed indigo.
The is the last quality from our Kaihara lot that we picked up earlier this year. The rich indigo color is obtained with mercerized yarn. Mercerization is a costly extra step in the production process but the results are well worth it. A mercerized cotton will have a rich lustre, softer hand and much better color uptake than unmercerized yarn. At 12oz this selvage has zero break in time and is a pleasure to wear right out of the box however the double knee front makes this feel beefier than a standard midweight.
Fit:
Based on the Die Hard Double Knee Straight Leg, we've tapered the leg from the knee down to a 7 1/2 bottom opening (sz 31). The top block, low hip and thigh are unchanged from the straight leg fit. Please keep in mind that fabric weaves and tensions play a factor in fit and can change the way a jean fits even though the identical pattern was used in the production. So is the nature of raw denim.
