In 1964, Wrangler introduced the “Broken Twill” denim. Due to its unique structure, it prevented the jean leg from twisting, a common complaint of jeans owners as 3x1 weaves were either 'left hand' or 'right hand' weaves and both either twisted to the left or the right. The broken twill weave solved this problem by 'breaking' the continuity of the weave due to its innovative construction technique. Not only did this solve the problem of fabric twist but it also gave the denim a unique aesthetic and a softer hand feel. Out of the three common weave techniques (Right hand, Left hand, BT) the broken twill weave is certainly the most obscure and difficult to find. One of the challenges of a broken twill weave is that it is generally a lighter shade than its RHT and LHT counterparts due to the unique nature of the weave. That's what makes this quality so special - the warp yarn is dyed on a range more than twice the height of a standard indigo dye range. This guarantees a warp yarn much darker than any standard dye range can accomplish. We can confidently say that this is the most indigo dense broken twill quality we have ever laid our eyes on.
